Holiday wine tour for Mum
My mother is coming to visit me in Melbourne and I am devising an itinerary for her time here. She likes having activities and a timetable for her holidays. I am trying to carve out a couple of slightly bigger activities to show her all the splendour of wider Victoria. A friend recommended I take her on a wine tour, which sounds right up our alley! I’ve never done a wine tour near Melbourne, even though Victoria is home to some amazing vineyards. She is here for two weeks so I reckon I can stretch to a two day wine tour with an overnight stay. That’s one major activity sorted, I figured for another one we would drive the great ocean road and see the twelve apostles! Between the wine tour and the road trip I figure she’ll be OK with enjoying all Melbourne has to offer, mainly a lot of boozy dinners and shopping as well as some beach days if the weather holds up and maybe a walking tour here and there. The last time my mother and I were away together was in South Africa about five years ago and we went on a wine tour there that ended in both of us feeling rather nauseous from having consumed nearly three bottles of wine and insane amounts of cheese. I figured planning this one of over two days will mean we have time to enjoy all the wine of the Bellarine Peninsula without getting heinously drunk in one day! Bellarine Peninsula winery tours are slowly becoming a family tradition it seems, I wonder what that says about us. Knowing my mother she will want to ship quite a few bottles home so I have even allowed time for postage. I have sent her an initial draft of our itinerary and her first question was, can we do a three day wine tour!
